COMMON QUESTIONS
Frequently Asked Questions
These are the questions homeowners ask us most often before a project begins. If yours is not covered here, call us on (858) 630-4649 and we will answer it directly.
HOW LONG DOES A CONCRETE PROJECT TAKE?
A standard residential driveway or patio is usually a few days of on-site work, spread across demolition, prep and forming, the concrete itself, and finishing. Larger projects, and anything involving foundations or retaining walls, run longer. You’ll get a realistic schedule with your estimate rather than a best-case number.
HOW SOON CAN YOU GET STARTED?
It starts with the free estimate. Send us the details and we’ll set a time to walk the site, look at access and grade, and talk through your options. You’ll get a price for the work as scoped, with no obligation attached. Once the scope is agreed and the contract is signed, we go over the installation timeline and where your project sits on the calendar. We’re a concrete company that runs a limited number of projects at a time, so we’d rather give you an honest start date than one we can’t hold.
WHAT AFFECTS THE COST OF A CONCRETE PROJECT?
Square footage is the starting point, and rarely the whole story. Access to the site, how much demolition and hauling is involved, grade and drainage work, thickness and reinforcement, and the finish you choose all move the number. Quotes from different concrete contractors in Escondido can vary widely on the same project, usually because of what each one included or left out of the prep.
DO I NEED A PERMIT FOR CONCRETE WORK?
It depends on your city and your project. Replacing an existing driveway or patio in kind often doesn’t require one, while work in the public right of way, structural foundations, and many retaining walls do. Each city in North County handles this a little differently, and we’ll tell you what your project needs before anything starts.
DO YOU REMOVE AND HAUL AWAY THE OLD CONCRETE?
Yes. Demolition, breakout, and disposal are part of a replacement project and they’re included in your estimate. Old concrete is heavy and the hauling is a real cost, so if a bid comes in unusually light, it’s worth asking whether removal was priced in.
CAN YOU MATCH OR TIE INTO MY EXISTING CONCRETE?
We can tie new work into an existing slab and get close on color and finish, but an exact match is rarely possible. New concrete cures lighter and darkens over the first year, and the original mix and finish may no longer be available. We’ll show you what to expect before we start, and in some cases replacing the adjoining section gives you a better result than trying to blend.
CAN YOU WORK ON A SLOPED OR HILLSIDE LOT?
Yes, and a lot of North County property is exactly that. Slopes change how we handle forming, reinforcement, and water, and they’re often where steps, stairways, or a retaining wall make more sense than trying to flatten everything. We’ll walk the grade with you and lay out what the site will actually support.
HOW LONG BEFORE I CAN USE THE NEW CONCRETE?
You can usually walk on it after a day or so, and vehicles can typically go back on a driveway after about a week. We’ll confirm the timing for your specific project before we leave. Concrete keeps gaining strength for weeks after that, so we’ll also tell you what to avoid in the meantime.
DO YOU WORK WITH BUILDERS AND GENERAL CONTRACTORS?
We do. Alongside residential work we install foundations, slabs, and structural concrete for builders and GCs, and we’re used to working to plan and around other trades on an active site. As a North County San Diego concrete contractor with four decades of local work behind us, we can usually tell you early if something on the drawing won’t work on that particular lot.
